Tobin Brothers Funerals 80th Anniversary

“It is fitting in this year of 1955 as we attain our majority of 21 years of faithful service to the Catholic community of Victoria that we should express our thanks to the thousands of families who have placed their confidence in us at a time of their bereavement. It is our pledge to continue in the future, the high standard we have set in the past.”

Above is the text of a newspaper advertisement placed by the founding fathers of Tobin Brothers Funerals in February 1955.

Fifty-Nine years and 228-thousand funerals later, we’re justifiably proud that the promise made by the company’s founders in that advertisement, has not only been honoured but has led to our company being recognised for its industry professionalism, leadership and innovation.

Having twice won the Family Business Australia National Award and having been inducted into the Victoria Family Business Hall of Fame in 2013 as the Best Third Generation Family Business, Tobin Brothers Funerals has arguably become the envy of its competitors.

We look back with great pride on so many of this company’s achievements, amongst them the establishment of 22 branches and state of the art chapels; the establishment of the Fixed Price Funeral Plan and Tobin Brothers Foundation; the creation of Bereavement Education, our Memories & Tributes Division and our fleet of specially designed hearses and mourning coaches.

As we celebrate our 80th year we give you, members of the public of Victoria, a commitment that we shall at all times be transparent with regard to funeral costs and that we will do everything possible to assist you to celebrate the lives of a loved one in a traditional manner or in a more contemporary style.

In conclusion, my fellow directors and I echo the promise of our founding fathers to continue into the future what we have so admirably achieved in the past.

In celebration of our 80th anniversary, we have produced eight, 2-3 minutes podcasts which trace the history of our company from its birth in 1934 to the present day. Each Friday for the next eight weeks, the latest chapter of The Tobin Story will be posted on this site for your listening pleasure.
